Week 7 of the spring season has come and gone. The weather held so we got to play, if fact it got a little warm. It was good to get back in the swing of things after the time off and the Area Tournament.
We were very short on referee's Saturday, the games after 3:00 were lucky if they had a referee. We really need all our referees to come out and do games. Thanks to all the one that did multiple games on Saturday. If it were not for you, we would not have had games. We are really going to need referee's to step up on May 20. It is the last Interregional games (5 of them at Gresham Field) and it is Soccerfest.
I did see a few old timers at the fields, and they did some games. Randy Chapell stopped by on his way to another game. He did a U8 game for fun. David Holt (Area 5B Referee Administrator) came by and AR'ed a U12 boys game. Then Centered another U12 boys game. We only had 2 upper division games Saturday. Randy also helped out by giving a AR some pointers, on how to line up with the last defender.
We did not have the security officer at the fields, he may have had to work his real job. But parking did not seem to be a real problem. As the season goes on, all the extra cars start to drop off and we have almost enough parking.
The Concession stand did well and snow cone sales are doing good. The plastic recycle bins looked like they has some plastic bottles in them. It may take a season of two for folks to get the idea.
This was the last week for the Under 6 teams, some of them had team parties under the pavilion. Lots of good looking trophy's, cake, ice cream, pizza, cup cakes, and picture taking was going on.
There were not any major problems Saturday. There was a report of a coach being asked to leave a field in another region. It is being looked in to. There was a young girl around 12 that passed out at the pavilion. She was not a player, just sitting at one of the tables, leaned over, and kept going. She may have gotten too hot. We got her a snow cone and she went and set in the shade and seemed ok.
Several teams turned in their forms for Soccerfest. We still have few openings if any team wants to play.
Next Saturday is the last week for the U8 - U12 teams, the U14 &U19 play till May 20.
Just a plug or reminder. Sunday May 14 (yes I know its Mothers day) is the Region 337 Volunteer appreciation day. It is from 1 pm - 4 pm at the fields. All coaches, referee's and regional volunteers are welcome to attend.
All in all not a bad weekend for soccer. See you all again next week.
Thanks for all you do.
