Well week 7 of the spring season has passed. We got to play and that was all that
mattered to the kids.
The weather was perfect, sunny and warm.I hope all the AYSO MOMs had a happy Mothers
day.
We still have a major shortage of referees, but a lot of them are filling games
as needed. Thanks to all the ones that came out and did games.
Several teams that are planning to go to Spartanburg, section 5 games had tables
set up trying to raise money. Good Luck to all of them.
Greg Lawson was there passing out team photos, most of the teams got theirs. Everyone
seemed happy with the photos.
This week was the last regular season games for the Under 6 teams. Several of
them had team parties. Next week is the U6 Jamboree. I don't know how many kids
signed up but the Jamboree folks are happy.
Mary Davis was there getting the final Soccerfest registrations. A lot of the
divisions are full, some only have 1 or 2 slots left. Mary said we should have
54 teams.
The concession stand did well, we made enough to pay the security officer, with
some left over. The shaved ice folks showed up, and looked like they we doing
good.
I only heard about a few problems. We had a coach and a parent that had a discussion
about the coach not watching the game. The coach was trying to watch 2 games.
Amy Waller and I talked to the coach and the parent. All is well. We also had
a coach make up some new laws of the game. He thought he could score on a throw
in. No you can not. A division commissioner went and talked to the coach. I heard
from and AR (assistant referee) that a coach was a whinny bottom. It will be addressed.
The only other problem was in a U19 girls game. The referee that stepped up to
do the game (Thanks Lynn) warned both teams at half time to tone it down. Did
they listen, no, the referee stopped the game with 20 minutes left. I think that
is a great call. If the teams and coaches can not control them-self, the referee
should stop the game. Maybe it will sink in.I have always heard about folks going
to a hockey game and a boxing match broke out. I don't want people saying I went
to a soccer match and a hockey game broke out. But with 140 team the problems
were minor, 136 played with out any problems. The two U12 girls teams with former
VIP players on them played. It was a great game (2 - 1), the last time these two
teams played the score was reversed. To me that is great. Both teams are balanced.
Both won, and both lost by the same score.
Next week is the final week of the spring season. This the first season (that
I can remember) that we have had to deal with so much rain.
I had a parent tell me she really liked the weekly newsletter. There was a lot
of good information in them. She said you need to get the word out about the newsletters.
April and Rick may need to look at ways of getting the newsletter into the coaches
hands.
We will see you on the fields again next week. Thanks for all you are doing for
the kids.
