Well week 7 has come and gone. The weather has been excellent. We could not have asked for a better day. It was cool in the morning but warmed up by the last games.
There were a lot of parking spots open on Saturday. With Fall break, a lot of teams canceled games or rescheduled games. But for the ones that got to play it was a great day.
The Cleat drop and swap was open. Lots of cleats and lost and found items were out for everyone. I saw several parents take advantage, by swapping good use cleats that were too small, for ones a little bigger to finish off the season. Also saw some shin-guards find new homes. There were cleats that were added to the recycle bin. Thanks to Susan Unbehaun for running the program. It is a great success.
I saw a couple of excellent games on Saturday. A U8 game that ended in a 4 - 4 tie. The odd thing is the last time these 2 teams played the game ended in a 4 - 4 tie. I also saw a U14 game that was very good. The game was scoreless till late in the game. With 4 minutes left the team from Region 275 scored. Play continued and with 2 minutes left, the Region 337 team found the back of the net. The game ended in a 1 - 1 tie. When the team form R275 scored, I heard one of their players yell, "I love you Logan".
I did not hear of any blow outs, I did hear from a U8 coach that they won their first game of the season. It was snow-cones for all the kids.
I did get a report from our U14 girls team. They had a very competitive, verbal game. It is a shame that some teams are not coached well enough to play a clean game when they are down. The Region 337 team won 7 - 5. I don't think there was any love in this game.
I want to thank Meghan Gilliam, Laura Walters, the last U6 coaches, the U8 coaches with the last games for bringing the corner flags and U6 goals to the storage areas. Mike got the rest of the stuff.
We had a couple of referees that made it out to do games. There were games that did not get covered. It was good to see Kerry Patterson and Sarah Wiles back out doing games. Dat Tran came in to do the U14 game I talked about earlier. Of course David Lister was out doing his normal mega-games. I want to thank all the referees that came out. When I was talking to the coach of the U14 boys team that tied, he is a referee and I think Assist. RA in Region 275. They are having the same problem we are with getting referees to come out and do games. So it is not just us. I guess Knoxville is still a football town, and people like to watch the Vols, even when the do like they did Saturday. Me, I would rather watch the kids play and have fun.
Well next week is the last games of the fall season, some teams are going to tournaments. I wish them all the best of luck. I hope they all do well and have fun.
Till next week when I see you on the fields.
