Week 5 of the Spring 2007 season is come and gone and despite the weather, we made it through most of the day. The rain held off, till about 1:30 pm and the kids got to play soccer. So there will only be a few teams that have make up games.

I saw many new referees on the fields. It was a good sight. No they were not perfect, I have yet to see a perfect referee. However, they all did their best and that is all we can ask for. All week long, there was the threat of rain, but we got the “PLAY ON” signal and we played.

Gail said the concession stand was doing better than she expected. Hot Coco and Coffee were big sellers.

Because of the threat of rain, some teams did not show. I am going to ask the division coordinators to ask their coaches again. If you going to cancel your game let us and the other coach, know. We had teams with no one to play, and referees with no games to do.

No Patterson humor this week, maybe next week. Other than when we had the high winds earlier in the week, two of the Patterson’s had been blown over. All were cleaned and stood up.

We made enough before the Easter break to pay the security guard. When the games were canceled at 2:00 pm, there was a major traffic back up. He went out on Rifle Range Road and directed traffic and got things flowing. We hoped to get the 3:00 pm games in but the lightning moved in and we moved out. Last year we got a small device called a Strike Alert. It shows when lightning is in the area. It is good for up to 24 miles. When the 0-6 mile light comes on, the lightning is there. When the 1:30 pm games were about to start the Strike Alert showed green, all clear, a few minutes later, red. We cleared the fields. Almost got things going and we were back in the red. I sent everyone home. Ron Gandy and company got all the corner flags put up.

On the way home I got a call from Terry Wilshire. His U14 had a tough game in Scott Co. One of his players broke her arm, another (a Goal Keeper) may have gotten her finger broke when she was kicked going for the ball. I told Terry to contact Lynn or Kellie so we can get all the forms filled out.

Hopefully next week will be better.

See you on the fields next week.
