Week 5 of the Fall season has come and gone. It was a overcast day and some showers off and on. But not enough to keep the kids from playing soccer.
Things were kind of light due to some teams that played on Friday and most of the interregional team playing out of region. We only had 2 U14 games Saturday. The other 4 U14 and U19 teams had away games. My U14 team played at Ball Camp so I was gone for a few hours. Terry Wilshire stepped in and was available while I was gone.
Earlier this week the one of the U12 division commissioners (Rich Guy)STRONGLY suggested to the U12 coach/referees that they needed to step up and start doing games. All the U12 games were covered with CR and ARs. Just about all the U10 games were also covered.
Our normal officer had to work, but he sent a replacement. He did fine getting cars in and out of the overflow lot.
All the pictures are over, I think. I did not see Greg Lawson and his photo crew on Saturday.
The fields looked fairly clean, only a couple of soccer balls for the lost and found.
We had a couple of the new referees step up and center their first U10 games. They have been AR on several games and felt comfortable enough to center a game. I know one was Mandy Harrison, one of our U14 players. She centered her first U10 game. She had 2 ARs that helped her, Brian Rowe and Jason DeRosa. Some more of the new referees need to take the big step.
On Friday I went to the fields to watch the VIP kids play, they seem like they are having so much fun. A lot of the parents help Suzanne. Anyway, when I got to the fields there was a guy on a ATV on the fields. I almost lost it, but then I saw he was pulling the aeration wheel behind him. It belonged to him and he came to get it. He went over the fields before he took it home. Shocked me for awhile. Several coaches came out to line the fields, Thank You.
Saturday I was talking to two of our U10 coaches/referees. They are really into helping out and doing all they can for the Region. You guessed it I made them boardmembers-at-large. One wants to help with the VIP kids. Their names, Lynn and Amy Waller. Welcome aboard. I also found out about another coach/referee that wants to help Crystal with the Kid Zone program. I will make sure before I release her name.
Speaking of Crystal (and Vicki), Crystal went around to the coaches and asked for donations for Tim Mcmahans son Abram. They collected $400 to add to the money we got last week. It is over $600 total. Thanks Crystal and Vicki. The region is not able to provide any money because of the National bylaws, so donations are the only way we can help.
Today there were a lot of Region 337 jerseys at the Lady Vols soccer game. The Lady Vols won 2 - 1 over the LSU Lady tigers. The game was tied and went in to overtime. The winning goal was scored with 20 seconds left on the clock. It was AYSO day at the game.
I will be meeting with Vernon Corum, on setting up the indoor soccer program
at the Northside YMCA.
Remember we have a monthly board meeting at 7:30 pm at Faith United Methodist
Church on Thursday, Oct. 14. Hope to see you there.
Til then "Play on"
