Week 3 of the spring season, did I say spring? Folks it was summer time warm at the fields on Saturday. I was told we hit 81 degrees.

The concession stand was doing well. Selling sausage biscuits in the morning, hotdogs, nachos and snow cones in the afternoon. Spring break really slowed down the number of folks at the concession stand. Everything should be back to normal next week.

Well I guess I have lost my edge, for the second week in a row there is no Patterson humor. Maybe next week.

We did have a visitor this week. Mike Goins the Regional Commissioner of Region 124. He coaches a U14 boy’s team and they came over for a game. I am sorry it did not work out for Mike, he did not go home happy. Guess it was the home field advantage. The Area 5B Coach Administrator was walking around observing coaches, their methods and game management. He did have some positive things and he told me they would be posted on his web site. Like last week we were short on referees. Guess they all went on Spring break. Hopefully things will get back to normal this week. We did have some games cancelled because of spring break. Those coaches will need to schedule their makeup games with their Division Coordinators. I want to thank all the referees that did come out and do games. David Holt the Area Referee Administrator was doing games. Troy Smith, Bill Mize and Dat Tran and others took care of the Upper division games. We had a couple of new referees doing their first centers. Jason DeRosa got to mentor one of our new U8 referees, she did fine. I hope she comes back and does some more U8 games. We did have a U10 game covered completely by youth referees. The parents said the boys did a good job and want them to come back. Bryon and Vicki are the proud parents of 2 of the boys.

There were not any major problems reported. There was one minor thing, not really a problem. A parent reported that player’s shorts were too short. Every time the player bent over you could see everything. I told the parent I would talk to the player’s parent. I did so and the parent said the shorts were fine with her. She did not see a problem with the player’s shorts. I told her I was just letting her know what another parent had said. I don’t know the players name; they are not from our region.

The security guard said it stayed busy all day in the parking lot. Last season toward the end of the day it slowed way down. This year it is staying busy all day. But we are also not getting slammed with a bunch trying to park in the morning. I guess spreading the games out has worked.

The fields are looking good; they are starting to green up.

Something that did happen on Friday was that the Soccer Mom League started up. We had 8 brave soccer moms come out and play soccer. They all had a great time and hopefully it will continue to grow. Soccer Moms is not for the Mia Hamm’s of the world. It is for the mom who has not played a lot, but has a child playing and wants in on the fun. Com on out Friday night at 6:30 pm and have some fun.

It was a great day for soccer. The weather was great, the kids had fun, and no one got hurt.

I’ll see you on the fields again next week.
