Well week 1 of the spring 2005 season has come and gone. I do have a quick question,
How many thought we would get to play Saturday? To me there was little doubt.
We are like the Post office, neither the threat of Rain, Sleet or Snow will keep
us from playing soccer. I watched the weather forcast all week, and it did not
look good. But the weather cooperated and we played. Despite the threat of up
to 2 inches of snow, the games were played.
From all accounts things went well, a little hurried at first. Selling jerseys,
getting the balls on the fields, putting the corner flags back on the poles. If
you did not notice we had a bit of wind Saturday. Some U6 players had to be secured
to the ground to keep them from flying away. I saw some very long kicks and some
very short ones, depending on how the wind was blowing.
I even lost my hat once.
The concession stand did well, Gail said she only got to step out of the traileer
twice between 8:30 and 4:30.
The parking officer said parking is getting better. More folks are using the other
overflow lot. The most cars he got in was 76, he had room for more, just no cars.
We gave all the items that were in the lost and found (from last season) to Vicki
Easterday and Faith United Methodist Church. The items will be given to needed
kids. But before the day was over more items showed up in the lost and found.
Thanks to Mike Moody for getting everything set up and taken down.
From what I could tell the games all had referees. I had to go to Ball Camp with
My U14 team and missed a couple of hours. Russ Woolard and Steve Drummer were
passing out referee uniforms, Rich Roth was looking for referees to do games,
All the rest of the referees were doing games.
The regional newsletter was out, but a lot of folks did not know about it. April
and Rick Parker are looking at ways to get the newsletter to the coaches.
Melissa Range, Eric and Crystal Jones (and others, I am sure) sold jerseys, and
did a booming business. We only had one problem, we ended up with more money than
we had reciepts for.
We started up the Referee and Coach of the week. There were not a lot of entrys,
but that will change as folks learn about it.
We will see what next week holds.
See you on the fields
