The October board meeting for AYSO Region 337 was held at Faith United Methodist Church on October 13 at 7:30 pm. Board members present were: George Burgess, Sharon Wise, Rich Guy, Teresa Guy, Mary Davis, Tyina Barnes, Amy Waller, Laura Walters, Jim Favaro, Melissa Range, Dan Hawkins, Mike Moody, Rick Roth, Sandra Harbison, Kerry Patterson, Cat Seagle, Chris Mott, Mike Horner, Bryon Easterday, and Catrina Clark.

George started the meeting by thanking everyone that showed up for the dedication ceremony. It looks like we will be getting 3 regulation size fields, bathrooms and more parking. Plans are being developed over the winter with construction to start sometime in 2006. The County donated 30 Fall Mums. They have been picked up and planted. Thanks to all those that helped out planting and picking up the mums.

George then welcomed our new board members, Cat Seagle, and Chris Mott.

The U12 team that will be going to the National games was discussed. George recommended Russ Wise to be the coach, however the position is open to any coach that is interested. Russ was recommended because he does not have a team in the U12 division, and his knowledge of soccer. The team, with the exception of the $400 registration fee, must pay for all the expenses, travel, lodging, meals, uniforms, etc. A team will be selected based on recommendations of the U12 coaches. Rich Guy will pass out player evaluation forms to all the U12 coaches. Players for the National team must have played in the Fall 2005 regular season.

A new board position is being created. Regional Player Evaluation and Development Coordinator. A job description will be worked up and submitted to National. The Player Evaluation and Development coordinator will see that all players are evaluated for the purpose of balancing teams, and to ensure that players develop as soccer players. Rich Guy is assigned to this position, and will be stepping down from the Under 12 division Coordinator next fall. Two new U12 division Coordinators will be appointed so they can work with Rich and Teresa Guy for the spring season.

George passed out some “Do you have a Healthy Region forms” taken from the AYSO Shorts. George would like them turned in as soon as possible. These will be used to make the region better.

Indoor Soccer was discussed. We need coaches for U10, U12, and U14 teams. Laura Walters is the Indoor Coordinator. Registration will be at the fields on Saturdays and at the YMCA. Cost is $30 per player.

Sharon Wise reported the region has $26,000 in the checking account. All the bills are up to date.

Tyina Barnes reported that board members above all other volunteers need to have appropriate behavior at all times. Ty presented the final list of volunteers (158) for the board’s approval. Most of the names have been approved before the season started, but some names have been added.

On the Coaching side, some U6 players are learning aggressive play, the coaches are being observed and the division coordinators are taking action. In the U10 division there have been some problems with coaches and referees. The division coordinators are addressing the problems. Some coaches may not be allowed to coach next season. The referees will get more training and be monitored. The U12 division coaches are filling out evaluation forms for all their players.

Catrina Clark is working on the recycle project. She has posters and fliers our. We will pass out more fliers at registration and coaches meetings in the spring.

Field 5 needs to be built up. The field has poor drainage. This can be addressed when the County starts construction on the park additions. We need some grass seed (or sod) around the high traffic areas.

The Regions newsletter needs articles. Any thing that you think would be of interest, please let April Parker know. We have added, “ask the Coach Administrator” to go along with the “ask the Referee Administrator” to the newsletter.

The Regional Assessment has been turned in to Lee Stewart the Area 5B Director. Lee said he would sign it and send it on to Tom Kohntopp the Section 5 Director.

We need to create a waiver form for the Soccer Moms program. We also need a full time coordinator

With nothing further to come before the board the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 pm.
Minutes were kept by Kerry Patterson due to the Regional Secretary being sick.

Respectfully submitted

Pat Burgess
