The June board meeting for AYSO Region 337 was held at Lee Stewart Fields on June 9 at 7:30 pm. Board members present were: George Burgess, Pat Burgess, Terry Wilshire, Theresa Gray, Rick Parker, April Parker, Liesl Harrison, Vicki Easterday, Russ Wise, Sharon Wise, Jeff Wolfenbarger, Rich Guy, Teresa Guy, Mike Horner, Sandra Harbison, Mike Thress, Lynn Waller, Amy Waller, Laura Walters, Jason DeRosa, Mike Moody, Jim Favaro, Melissa Range, Kerry Patterson, Joe Snyder, Rick Roth.

Sandra Harbison has scheduled the first walk in registration for the fall season on July 16, 10 am – 2 pm at Central High School. The second walk in registration will be held July 23 also at Central High School. Reminder cards will be sent out to all previous season players. The deadline for early registration is August 13. After August 13 the late registration fee is $75. Regular registration fee is $50. No Scholarships will be given without the Regional Commissioners approval. Fall registration forms will be available at both soccer camps. We also need to find out about re-imbursements from National on Scholarships. We will need tables at registration for referees, team parents, coaches, people to line fields, volunteers, new players, and anyone interested in the adult league. After folks sign up as volunteers we need some one to follow up to see that they do get involved.

Everyone must fill out and sign a new volunteer form. This is the start of the 2005 –2006 season. You must print out the form and sign it. Volunteers who do not will be dropped as volunteers.

Russ and Sharon Wise are moving up from the Under 8 division coordinators to the Under 10 division coordinators. Jeff Wolfenbarger is stepping down, but will remain active as a coach and referee. The Under 8 division coordinator position is open, and we will need to fill the position before registration. Rich Guy, the Under 12 division coordinator said that he would be stepping down next fall.

Steve Gray is still looking into a storage building. He knows a person that will build one for $1200. This is the cost of the materials. The new storage building will be similar to what we have and secure enough to store field equipment in.

Lynn Waller will get more rock when he has a day he can get a dump truck. It was decided to cut down the trees in the center of the overflow parking lot. This will let us park more cars.

George thanked April and Rick Parker for the great job they did on the newsletter this past season. We need to find a way to get the newsletter in to more of the coaches, and parent’s hands. Rick is looking at a newspaper dispenser, like the Halls Shopper uses.

George stated that at the NAGM that AYSO is going to be run more like a business, and that the region would also follow National lead. There are new job descriptions, and people will be expected to stay within the bounds of the job descriptions. Tyina Barnes is getting all the new job descriptions and will passing them out soon.

Joe Myers was voted in as a board member at large, some more folks would be added in the near future.

Team balancing will be stressed this season starting with the U6 and U8 divisions. Hopefully this will create more balance among the teams. The division coordinators will be in charge of team balancing.

Rick Parker said he would be happy to work with the new Safety Director if Eric Jones decides to leave. Rick is currently the only one trained as a Safety Director, besides Eric.

Amy Waller made a suggestion that the kid zone forms (blank and signed) should be kept at the fields in a file cabinet. George has a file cabinet and will bring it to the field and put it in the current storage building. There will also be a door/wall-mounted file with blank forms in it.

The problem of parents taking the referee course, the region buying them complete uniforms and then the parents not doing any games was discussed. It was decided by the board that new referees would only get at yellow t-shirt till they had done a minimum number of games. Once the new referee has completed the required games, the region will buy a complete uniform set. (A complete uniform set for a referee costs around $50 each). Hopefully this will save the region some money, because in the past after completing the course, and getting their uniforms, and we never see them on game days. A new referee will get a pair of basic referee socks ($3.95), basic whistle ($0.75), game coin ($2.45), basic flags ($4.95) and yellow referee t-shirt ($5.00). This comes to around $17 each.

Theresa Gray told us that Tyina Barnes requested that we buy new corner flags. Soccer USA will give us a good discount if we purchase the flags from them. The corner flags would be regulation corner flags with a spring at the base to protect the players. The ones we have do not give real well and tend to snap off at the middle. It was also brought before the board to purchase a new computer for the Regional Commissioner. The flags and computer will be purchased with proceeds from Soccerfest.

Super Camp will be held at Maryville College on July 22, 23,24. There will be courses for Advanced Management, Advanced Coach, and Intermediate Referee.

With nothing further to come before the board the meeting was adjourned.
